I feel the climax and the ending could have been stronger and more dramatic though. His illustrations made the storytelling experience a lot more compelling and complete. I also admired the illustrations and I loved the style of Peter Brown's artwork. Although she’s treated as an outcast at first, in the end, she wins everyone’s hearts through her funny interactions and kind words. Her mysterious origins, which circled back to her in the end, is a very playful plot twist. I love the idea that she is growing and nurturing all on her own in her new surroundings as soon she became activated on the island. As the story develops, so does her complexity as a character. Roz is such a wholesome character that people can relate to and understand.ĭespite being somewhat naïve to wilderness survival, Roz learns quickly to observe and take after the other animals and their behaviors, even though she didn’t quite fit in. She works to learn how to act friendly and concerned like her animal peers, so they would feel more comfortable around her. Roz is a such a wholesome character who, despite being a robot, has a personal voice that is undeniably charming. This was a nice light read that would be a lovely pick to read to young children, especially. Despite the conflict, Roz is determined to do whatever it takes to keep her island friends with her, and to fight the urge to give into the forces that were responsible for her past. Their job is to get Roz to return to the factory where she was made. Just as Roz is starting to feel at home, several robots arrive on the island.
